Flat attenuation + a non-linear filter, working as one
Two systems in one custom plug. A flat attenuator turns the tunnel down evenly, so flyers and cues still sound natural — never muffled. Then a non-linear filter reacts to loudness, clamping harder the louder it gets, so the sustained wind-tunnel roar is driven safely below the danger line. With a full filter selection you tune the exact reduction to your role — full awareness, zero overexposure, something no off-the-shelf earplug can do.
Every other earplug forces a bad trade. Foam and solid plugs just jam the ear shut — they crush the high frequencies hardest, so voices go muffled and you lose the sounds you actually need. Big Ear refuses the trade by combining two acoustic systems in one custom plug. First, flat attenuation turns the whole world down by the same amount at every pitch, so speech, music and your surroundings still sound natural — just safely quieter, never muffled. The Big Ear filtered system
Your ears don't change when you switch hobbies, so your protection shouldn't either. The same custom-molded shell that protects a musician on stage protects a rider at 80 mph, a dentist over a drill, a pilot in the cockpit, and a machinist on the floor. You buy the fit once and adapt it to the moment by changing the filter — not by buying a different product.
The two filter types — the part nobody else explains
Flat-attenuation
"Turn the room down, not off."
The colored, interchangeable filters. Each lowers every frequency by about the same amount, so sound keeps its natural balance — voices, music, and warnings stay clear, just safely quieter. This is what makes the plugs hi-fi. Levels: 9, 15, 20, 25, and 30 dB.
Non-linear
"Open when it's quiet, clamped when it's loud."
A separate, level-dependent filter. It passes normal sound almost untouched so you keep full situational awareness, then automatically tightens against sudden, dangerous peaks — a gunshot, a backfire, an impact. Protection arrives only when the noise spikes.
