Custom Headphones · In-Ear Monitors

Studio sound,
handcrafted for your ears.

This is the one product that's hardest to explain — so here it is plainly. Big Ear headphones are custom in-ear monitors: hearing protection first, audiophile sound second, built to the exact shape of your ears so nothing falls out and nothing leaks in. You make two choices — how many drivers, and how soft the shell.

Why they're different

Protection first. Then the music.

Every pair seals to your own ear impression, passively blocking outside noise — no batteries, no active cancellation to fail. Then we put the sound in: balanced-armature drivers, hand-tuned. You get clarity people normally pay thousands for, in something that also protects your hearing at 80 mph or on a loud stage.

Find your pair

Which one is right for you?

Answer two quick questions. We’ll point you to the pair built for how you actually listen — with the real product, the price, and exactly why it fits.

Question 1 of 2

What will you mostly use them for?

The details

What everything means.

Plain-language answers to the questions worth asking before you spend on custom.

What is a "driver"?
A driver is a tiny speaker inside your monitor. A single driver reproduces the whole range from one source — clean and coherent. Add more drivers and each one specializes in bass, mids, or treble, so nothing muddies. More drivers means more separation and detail, which is the main thing that changes as you move from the BE1C to the Big 5.
What does "custom fit" actually mean?
We take an impression of your ear and mold the shell to its exact shape. That gives a perfect seal — sound can't leak out, outside noise can't leak in, and nothing works loose no matter how you move. It's the difference between something that sits in your ear and something that becomes part of it.
Soft shell or standard shell?
Standard shells are a firm, classic vinyl. Soft shells are a flexible silicone that moves with your ear for a superior seal and all-day comfort. We recommend Soft for most people — especially riders and anyone wearing them for hours.
Wired, or the Convertible Series?
Wired is the classic detachable cable — simple and reliable. The Convertible Series gives you both worlds in one pair: wired when you want it, wireless when you don't. Any driver count can be built convertible.
How much noise do they block?
Because the shell seals your ear canal, Big Ear monitors block outside noise passively — no batteries, no hiss. You hear your music instead of the world, and you don't have to crank the volume to do it, which protects your hearing over time.
Why does it take 35–40 days?
Every pair is hand-built to your impressions — about 35–40 business days from when they reach the lab. That wait is the reason they fit like nothing off a shelf, and it's backed by our Perfect-Fit Promise and a 36-month warranty.

Why custom

Why custom beats anything universal.

Universal earbuds are built for an average ear that doesn't exist. Yours are molded to the exact shape of your ears — and that one difference changes everything about how they seal, sound, and feel.

Big Ear custom

  • Molded to your exact ear — a perfect seal, nothing falls out
  • True isolation — blocks the noise, not just turns it down
  • All-day comfort with zero ear fatigue
  • Sound tuned to a sealed chamber — you hear every nuance
  • Yours for years — we keep your mold on file for reorders

Universal / off-the-shelf

  • One-size tips that never quite seal
  • Sound leaks in and out — you crank the volume
  • Ache and fatigue after an hour
  • Work loose and fall out when you move
  • Wear out and get replaced every year

Choice two · the shell

Soft or standard.

Same fit, two feels. We recommend Super-Soft for most people — it flexes with the ear for a better seal and all-day comfort.

Recommended

Super-Soft Silicone

Flexes with your ear for a superior seal and all-day comfort, especially for sensitive ears. Our default for single-transducer builds.

Classic

Standard (Vinyl)

The firmer, rigid classic — a precise, durable shell that holds its shape.

Real products, real customers

What they actually look like.

Not renders — real customers’ own pairs, single to triple driver. Here are both shells, in real ears, so you can see the difference for yourself.

Wired and wireless

The convertible series.

Want Bluetooth without giving up wired fidelity? The convertible series swaps between a wired cable and a self-contained Bluetooth neck unit using two metal prongs — ride wireless, then plug in when the battery's done. Convertibles are built in the firm shell only (no Super-Soft).

Field reports

The sound is where the magic lies.

★★★★★

“The fit and comfort is unmatched and the build quality is impressive — but the sound is where the magic lies. I hear every nuance, even at speed on a loud bike. Definitely worth the wait.”

Alex Flatman · Victoria, BC
★★★★★

“A tad pricey, I must say — but the sound and build quality make you want to use them again and again. In the end the price seems minimal.”

Chris Potter · Wireless earbuds
★★★★★

“Sixteen years of constant use and they’re still as valuable as the day I bought them. They even had my mold on file to build a fresh set. Worth their weight in gold.”

Michael Wood · 16-year owner

At this level, you should ask

Why trust us with a $1,700 monitor?

01 · Two decades

We have done this since 2003

This is not a side business or a drop-shipped shell. My dad founded Big Ear in 2003 and we have been hand-building custom ears ever since — the same family, the same bench.

02 · One pair at a time

Hand-built, not machine-poured

Every shell is built to a single impression by a person, not stamped from a size chart. That is why it takes 35–40 business days — and why a five-driver Big 5 seals like it was poured into your ear.

03 · We stand behind it

Perfect-Fit Promise, 36-month warranty

If it does not seal the way it should, we remake it. Register your set and the full 36-month warranty is active from the day it arrives. We keep your impressions and your build spec on file for life.

Buying for someone else

You can’t gift-wrap someone else’s ears

Everything we build is molded to one person’s ears — which is a problem if you’re trying to buy this for a husband who won’t stop riding, a kid in a 115 dB drumline, or a dad who spent thirty years on a shop floor. You can’t take the impression for them.

So we do it the honest way: a gift card. You pay. They choose their product, their colours, their filters — and they take the impression whenever they’re ready. Nothing expires, and nothing arrives that doesn’t fit.

01

You buy the card

Any amount. Put it toward a $224.95 filtered set or a $1,699.95 five-driver monitor — or let them top it up themselves.

02

They choose and order

They pick the product that fits their world. Their complimentary impression kit ships with the order.

03

We build it to their ears

Hand-built in 35–40 business days, backed by the Perfect-Fit Promise. It fits them, because it was made for them.

You’re the one who noticed. He turns the TV up, you turn it down. He says you’re mumbling. Almost nobody hears their own hearing go — the person losing it is usually the last to know. That’s why this is yours to start.
