We have done this since 2003
This is not a side business or a drop-shipped shell. My dad founded Big Ear in 2003 and we have been hand-building custom ears ever since — the same family, the same bench.
Custom Headphones · In-Ear Monitors
This is the one product that's hardest to explain — so here it is plainly. Big Ear headphones are custom in-ear monitors: hearing protection first, audiophile sound second, built to the exact shape of your ears so nothing falls out and nothing leaks in. You make two choices — how many drivers, and how soft the shell.
From $399.99 · Free home impression kit · 36-month warranty · Perfect-Fit Promise

Why they're different
Every pair seals to your own ear impression, passively blocking outside noise — no batteries, no active cancellation to fail. Then we put the sound in: balanced-armature drivers, hand-tuned. You get clarity people normally pay thousands for, in something that also protects your hearing at 80 mph or on a loud stage.
Choice one · how many drivers
Each added driver splits the frequency range further — deeper lows, clearer mids, crisper highs. Start wherever your ears and budget want; every tier is the same custom fit.

The details
Plain-language answers to the questions worth asking before you spend on custom.
Why custom
Universal earbuds are built for an average ear that doesn't exist. Yours are molded to the exact shape of your ears — and that one difference changes everything about how they seal, sound, and feel.
Choice two · the shell
Same fit, two feels. We recommend Super-Soft for most people — it flexes with the ear for a better seal and all-day comfort.
Recommended
Flexes with your ear for a superior seal and all-day comfort, especially for sensitive ears. Our default for single-transducer builds.
Classic
The firmer, rigid classic — a precise, durable shell that holds its shape.
Real products, real customers
Not renders — real customers’ own pairs, single to triple driver. Here are both shells, in real ears, so you can see the difference for yourself.
Soft silicone — flexes with your ear

Standard acrylic — the harder, glass-clear shell

Wired and wireless
Want Bluetooth without giving up wired fidelity? The convertible series swaps between a wired cable and a self-contained Bluetooth neck unit using two metal prongs — ride wireless, then plug in when the battery's done. Convertibles are built in the firm shell only (no Super-Soft).

Built for you
Every pair is made to your ear impressions — about 35–40 business days from when your impressions reach the lab. We send stage-by-stage updates the whole way, and the Perfect-Fit Promise covers the fit.

“The fit and comfort is unmatched and the build quality is impressive — but the sound is where the magic lies. I hear every nuance, even at speed on a loud bike. Definitely worth the wait.”
“A tad pricey, I must say — but the sound and build quality make you want to use them again and again. In the end the price seems minimal.”
“Sixteen years of constant use and they’re still as valuable as the day I bought them. They even had my mold on file to build a fresh set. Worth their weight in gold.”
Start your build
It starts with your ears. Every order includes a complimentary home impression kit — or if you already know your driver count, build your pair now. Either way, the clock on your 35–40 business day hand-build starts when your impressions reach the lab.
Every custom piece begins with a mold of your ear. The impression kit is free.
This is not a side business or a drop-shipped shell. My dad founded Big Ear in 2003 and we have been hand-building custom ears ever since — the same family, the same bench.
Every shell is built to a single impression by a person, not stamped from a size chart. That is why it takes 35–40 business days — and why a five-driver Big 5 seals like it was poured into your ear.
If it does not seal the way it should, we remake it. Register your set and the full 36-month warranty is active from the day it arrives. We keep your impressions and your build spec on file for life.
Everything we build is molded to one person’s ears — which is a problem if you’re trying to buy this for a husband who won’t stop riding, a kid in a 115 dB drumline, or a dad who spent thirty years on a shop floor. You can’t take the impression for them.
So we do it the honest way: a gift card. You pay. They choose their product, their colours, their filters — and they take the impression whenever they’re ready. Nothing expires, and nothing arrives that doesn’t fit.
Any amount. Put it toward a $224.95 filtered set or a $1,699.95 five-driver monitor — or let them top it up themselves.
They pick the product that fits their world. Their complimentary impression kit ships with the order.
Hand-built in 35–40 business days, backed by the Perfect-Fit Promise. It fits them, because it was made for them.
You’re the one who noticed. He turns the TV up, you turn it down. He says you’re mumbling. Almost nobody hears their own hearing go — the person losing it is usually the last to know. That’s why this is yours to start.
